Where we would send a friend first
Abia has more to see than a weekend allows. If we had to choose, these are the places we would start with.

The National War Museum stands at Ebite Amafor in Isingwu, Umuahia North. Umuahia was Biafra’s last capital, and the museum was inaugurated on 15 January 1985 and opened to the public on 14 September 1989. Outdoors you will find aircraft, armoured vehicles, and boats. Indoors there are uniforms and photographs. The Voice of Biafra bunker is on the grounds. Plan a long visit.
For something made by hand
Akwete cloth comes from Akwete, in Ukwa East. Women weave it on an upright loom called Nkwe, and the cloth is worn as a full wrapper. By the 1890s it had already reached European museums. Seeing it made is a quiet, memorable hour.
For a quiet morning
The Azumini Blue River is about thirty minutes from Aba by the Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway. Canoes work the water, and green banks frame it on both sides. Go between November and April, when the dry season makes the visit easier.

The Abia Tower of Peace was built in 1992, under Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, where the Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway meets the Umuahia–Owerri road. Its sign reads ABIA STATE, GOD’S OWN STATE. Locals simply call it the Tower, and almost every visit starts here.

At Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, the UniPod is Nigeria’s first Manu-Tech UniPod. It was inaugurated on 6 July 2026 as a partnership of the Federal Government, UNDP, TETFund, and Abia State.
