Where the roads into Umuahia meet

The Abia Tower of Peace stands where the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway meets the Umuahia–Owerri road. It was built in 1992, during the short administration of Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia, and was meant as a welcome into the capital.

People still call the junction “Tower”. The crown on these photographs reads Abia State — God’s Own State. Traffic piles up here at Easter and Christmas, which is why later governments have talked about a flyover, but the tower itself remains the picture of arriving in Umuahia.
