The old consulate, still telling the story
The National Museum of Colonial History is at No. 6 Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba. It was commissioned on 8 March 1985 by Brigadier Ike Nwachukwu, then military governor of the old Imo State, and it belongs to the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.
The museum occupies the former consulate, a wooden trade-station building. The galleries move through the south-east before colonial rule, under it, and after independence. Staff have pointed visitors to a table associated with Frederick Lugard’s amalgamation. The published museum contact is abamuseum.ncmm@museum.ng and 08037790994. Entry fees change, so ask at the door.
