Mater Dei Cathedral

Mater Dei — Mother of God — is the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia. The church in these photographs is a pale building under a tall pyramidal roof and a cross, with a columned porch and lawns that open toward the city.

Sunday gathers the capital here. The diocese is older than the present roof, so treat the building you see as the current cathedral, not the first church on the story of the diocese.
